Welcome to the Biggest Issue

A new Substack to help us create long-lasting, positive change.

Here at Big Issue, we’ve spent 35 years working on our mission to end poverty - and to do that we must reach, and engage with, as many people as possible.

We have always showcased the issues that members of the public, often shut out of the mainstream media, face on a daily basis. We give them a voice, and highlight the work that’s going on to help them.

To do that, we need to be on all the best platforms, so we can give a space for others to speak from and help us on our mission.

A new addition to the family

That’s why we’re starting this new Substack, Biggest Issue. It’ll sit alongside our award-winning journalism in print, regular newsletters and on the website, giving our supporters a chance to take an ever deeper dive into the issues that really matter.

If you’re new to Substack, this is a great time to sign up. In addition to our weekly posts, we’ll be putting up regular smaller insights - called Notes - on the things that matter, the work we’re doing and surfacing other great articles you might like - getting the Substack app is a great way to see those.

It’ll allow you to be part of our new digital community, posting comments on articles, resharing our Notes and interacting with the issues that matter to you.

We’ll also be highlighting interesting posts and thoughts from other related writers across the Substack landscape. However, if there’s no space in your life for another app, don’t worry, you can just get our posts as emails straight to your inbox too!

Biggest Issue will be bringing you in-depth posts on all the areas that we report on regularly in the magazine, whether that’s housing, financial and digital inclusion, health and wellbeing, learning and employment or the environment and communities.

We’ve been fiercely championing voices in these areas for decades, and this platform gives us a chance to go further and present you with regular updates about what’s going on with Big Issue Group as we work to end poverty.

You can expect weekly posts that explore the things that matter, with first person stories, our trademark investigative journalism and deep explainers, breaking down the echo chambers and encouraging understanding, not division.

You can look forward to us working with other top Substacks, posting regular Notes and giving you a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at how we champion positive change and solutions.
